Brooklyn victims of NYC bus accident given $7.5 million

Legal news for New York City personal injury attorneys – NYC Transit paid two Brooklyn women $7.5 mil for damages after bus accident.

Brooklyn, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – Two women were traveling in a car in Brooklyn, when a New York City Transit bus blew through a red light and slammed into their car in 2005, according to the New York Daily News.

The two women, identified as Brenda Whaley and Amanda Wade, sustained serious injuries in the crash and required medical attention. One of the attorneys representing one of the plaintiffs said that his clients insurance ran out and she was unable to pay for her continued medical needs. At first, the bus driver claimed that it was not his fault, and the New York City Transit refused to pay the two women. Soon after, the two women then sought compensation through the court system and the power of an attorney. Whaley and Wade fought and won their case with a jury trial and were granted $7.5 million in damages and $250,000 last week for the bus accident, which was paid in full by New York City Transit.

The NYC Transit authority could have settled the women’s case three years ago for $3 million, but declined. An NYC Transit spokesperson commented that the agency planned to appeal the verdict.
