Personal Injury News: Minivan struck, critically injured bicyclist

Legal news for Long Island Personal Injury attorneys–Suffolk County police reported that a minivan crashed into a bicyclist in Long Island, New York.

Suffolk County, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – Suffolk County police officials reported to the scene where a 13-year-old bicyclist was struck by a minivan that left the scene on Saturday, November 21, 2009.

Police report that the minivan struck and seriously injured the Brentwood boy at 4:45 p.m., on Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Carleton Avenue and Spur Driver North. The victimized boy was riding his bike with two other bicyclists at the time of the crash. The other two cyclists were reportedly unharmed in the serious incident. The van had been heading south on Carleton Avenue when it struck the boy crossing the street.

Emergency medical services (EMS) arrived at the scene to transport the injured boy. The 13-year-old was airlifted in a Suffolk County police helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center, where he was cared for by doctors and nurses for his injuries. Police reported that the boy suffered facial lacerations and head wounds. Authorities stated that the teen was in critical condition at the hospital. Medical personnel did not report if the boy was in a stable condition.

The investigation continues as police track down the driver of the minivan who fled the scene of the accident. Police reported that the minivan probably has front-end damage.
