Richmond, TX—A rollover accident occurred as a Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office deputy was responding to a stolen vehicle report Monday evening, Dec. 27, 2010, causing the officer to suffer critical injuries. According to information provided by Click2Houston.com, the sheriff’s deputy underwent multiple operations and was placed in a medically induced coma.
Reports indicated Fort Bend County Deputy John Norsworthy was behind the wheel of his patrol car, responding to the call of a stolen vehicle, when another motorist failed to yield to emergency lights.
Norsworthy swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision, but ended up becoming involved in a rollover accident instead. Emergency responders had to extricate him from his wrecked patrol vehicle before he could be transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment.
Norsworthy was apparently rushed to the medical center in critical condition. Doctors contended that while they believe they were able to find and control the source of his internal bleeding, he was still placed in a medically induced coma.
Medical personnel reportedly administered the deputy more than 60 units of donated blood. According to Chief Deputy Craig Brady, “We do have a blood drive organized at our office tomorrow, and we are encouraging anyone that can to give blood in his name.”
It was not clear if any citations were issued in connection with the injurious Richmond rollover crash. Investigations are expected to be underway.
