The Missouri Highway Patrol alerts Missouri automobile accident attorneys- A recreational vehicle (RV) hit a construction worker in a construction zone.
Joplin, MO—A recreational vehicle (RV) passing through a construction zone on U.S. Highway 7, clipped a construction worker who was working in the work zone. The worker was struck on Monday, April 12, 2010 around 4:30 p.m. on U.S. 71 just south of Fir Road in Carthage, as reported by the Carthage Press.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Jasper County Sherriff’s Department reported the passing RV clipped Ricky L. Williams, 46, of Bucyrus. Williams was apparently working in the roadway when the southbound motor home driven by Eugene R. Hoton, 67, of Kansas City, hit him. It was not reported if he was transported to an area hospital for treatment of any injuries.
Jasper County Sheriff’s Capt. Kelly Stephens managed to catch up to the RV and said it looked like the driver was looking for a safe spot to pull over. “He had driven past the construction zone and had to drive past the on-ramps to I-44 and he was stopped there,” Stephens said. “He was pulling over before I caught up to him and I don’t think he could have seen me coming.”
Williams was working for Journagan Construction, which was resurfacing U.S. 71 when the accident occurred.
The accident occurred just one week prior to the kickoff of MoDOT’s Work Zone Awareness Week, April 19-23, which is aimed to “call drivers’ attention to the dangers of inattentive driving in construction zones and the stiff penalties for drivers who cause an accident in a zone.”
