Fort Wayne, IN—The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov, in cooperation with Do It Best Corp. of Fort Wayne, Indiana, has announced the voluntary recall of bicycle bells due to violations of the federal lead paint standard. The recall was made known to the public on Thursday, March 18, 2010, and involved approximately 1,000 bike bells.
Although no injuries or incidents have been reported to the firm in connection with the product safety recall, according to the CPSC, “The red paint on the bicycle bells contains excessive lead levels, violating the federal lead paint standard.” The bicycle bells were are red, black and white, and have “I (heart) My Bike” printed on the surface of the circular-shaped bell. The packaging is white and green with “bike bell” printed across the top-center of the casing.
Do It Best Corp. Bicycle Bells were manufactured by Botou City, China-based Botou Baite Bike Bell Co. Ltd. The hazardous bike bells were sold in Dollar Stores and Do It Best Hardware shops throughout the United States from August 2008 to August 2009 for $1.
Consumers have been urged to remove bike bells from children’s bicycles and return them to their place of purchase for a full reimbursement.
