An Arizona crash involving a Dodge pickup and a Toyota Camry left two kids dead.
Phoenix, AZ– A two-vehicle crash ejected three kids after their pickup truck they were riding in slammed into a car in northwest Phoenix. The fatal crash occurred around 1:40 a.m., at the intersection of 43rd Avenue and Greenway Road, as reported by AZCentral.com.
According to Phoenix police officials, a 2002 Toyota Camry was traveling northbound on 43rd Avenue, when the car was hit by an eastbound 1996 Dodge pickup truck that was traveling on Greenway Road. One of the vehicles apparently failed to stop at a red traffic light, but it is unknown which vehicle failed to stop. Four children were riding in the pickup truck at the time; three of them were not properly restrained in child safety seats. The collision ejected the three kids from the truck, leaving Darien Raumell, 2, dead at the scene of the wreck. The two other kids, Shaylee Raumell, 8, and a 5-year-old boy were rushed to an area hospital by emergency medical services (EMS) teams for treatment of their critical injuries. Shaylee was pronounced dead at the hospital when her injuries proved fatal. The fourth child, a 1-year-old girl, who was properly restrained, was also transported to a local hospital as well. The driver of the pickup truck, a 38-year-old male, did not sustain any injuries in the wreck. The driver of the Camry, a 19-year-old female, and her passenger, a 14-year-old girl, were injured and transported to an area hospital. The driver is reportedly in critical condition while the passenger is in stable condition. Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the fatal collision. An investigation is underway.
