“The driver of a tour bus from JTR Transportation based out of Poughkeepsie, NY, has been identified as Fermin P. Vasquez, 66, of Wingdale, NY. Vasquez is one of approximately 26 people who were transported to Upstate Hospital for treatment of various injuries. Approximately 26 other passengers of the bus were transported to Auburn Community Hospital and several others were transported to Crouse Hospital.” Source
“ According to the New York State Troopers’ preliminary investigation, the reason for the crash is still unknown. What we do know from passenger accounts is that it does not appear that other vehicles were involved. As of yesterday, the State Troopers crash reconstruction and analysis is ongoing. More than 50 people were hospitalized after a tour bus carrying tourists to Niagara Falls ran off the New York State Thruway west of Syracuse on Saturday afternoon.
Firefighters from Port Byron, who were celebrating the department’s 150th anniversary at the time, rushed to the scene.
The 57 passengers aboard the bus, including the driver, Fermin Vasquez, 66, of Wingdale, New York, were all taken to local hospitals. JTR Transportation of Poughkeepsie operated the bus.
