Ron Bell, Attorney offering important information about “Lipitor Diabetes”

New Source: JusticeNewsFlash.com
09/30/2013 (press release: Ann Mulhern) // Albuquerque, NM, USA // Ann Mulhern

If you take Lipitor and developed Type 2 Diabetes Ron Bell wants you to know the current legal remedies underway.

In January 2012, a study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine identified a potential link between statin use in women and type 2 diabetes. The study involved a cohort of 161,808 female test subjects between the ages of 50 and 79 who participated in the Women’s Health Initiative. The research ultimately determined that women who took statins like Lipitor were nearly 50% more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes than women who did not. The authors of the study concluded that “statin use is associated with an

increased risk for [type 2 diabetes].”

The Archives of Internal Medicine research succeeds two other 2011 studies published in the Lancet and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC). The Lancet study was a meta-analysis of several other studies which identified a 9% increase in type 2 diabetes diagnoses among statin users. The JACC study focused specifically on Lipitor, and found that daily doses of the drug at 80 mg increased the diabetes risk by nearly 40% over a placebo.

Type 2 diabetes is characterized by high blood glucose and insulin deficiency. While the condition is often managed in its early stages by exercise and dietary changes, prescription medications are usually required as the disease progresses. In the United States, there are approximately 24 million people living with diabetes, about 90% of which are type 2. With prevalence rates doubling between 1990 and 2005, the

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has characterized the disease as a nationwide epidemic. Signs and symptoms of Lipitor diabetes may include:

• Increased thirst and frequent urination

• Increased hunger

• Weight loss

• Fatigue

• Blurred vision

• Slow-healing sores or frequent infections

• Areas of darkened skin

In addition to type 2 diabetes, Lipitor may cause the following serious side effects:

• Muscle damage

• Myopathy

• Kidney damage

• Kidney failure (also known as renal failure)

• Liver Failure

• Rhabdomyolysis

• Memory loss

• Death
