Reducing the Number of Pedestrian Accidents Is a Community Effort

06/05/2013 // LifeCare123 // Life Care Solutions Group // (press release)

An estimated 5,000 people die in pedestrian accidents every year, while over an estimated 60,000 more sustain injuries from them. Injuries sustained by pedestrians when they are struck by a motor vehicle are often severe. Among the most common reported pedestrian accident injuries are bone fractures, traumatic brain injury, and spinal cord injury.

Some Concord pedestrian accident victims are among the many whose accident was caused by driver negligence. Distracted driving, speeding, and failing to yield to the right of way for pedestrians are among the most common issues that lead to claims for negligence in a Concord pedestrian accident lawsuit.

There are many efforts that can be made on the part of drivers and communities to reduce the high number of pedestrian accident injuries. In addition to drivers making more of an effort to obey traffic laws, roadway design improvements also have great potential for making traveling safer for pedestrians.

Some communities have already begun implementing measures such as designing road elements that limit the exposure of pedestrians to vehicles when walking. The placement of sidewalks, underpasses, and high intensity lighting in roadways are a few examples of engineering efforts that have been made in cities throughout California and nationwide. Reducing traffic speeds and implementing community-based programs that provide recreation for children and teens so that there is less incidence of their walking or playing on roadways can also help.

For individuals who have been involved in a pedestrian accident and need help with related issues now, resources are available. The Life Care Solutions Group is one resource that can help pedestrians who have been involved in an accident and have questions about their medical and legal options get the care they need. Injured individuals can contact The Life Care Solutions Group today to request a free case review.
