Houston, TX — Police officials believe the driver of an out-of-service Metro bus that was involved in a crash with a dump truck, experienced a medical complication just prior to the fatal wreck. The bus accident occurred near McGregor on southbound Texas 288 at about 8:30 a.m., reported the Houston Chronicle.
According to officials, the driver of the out-of-service Metro bus was on its way to a Metro Facility after finishing his shift when the accident occurred. The Metro bus was traveling in the inside lane when it veered slightly to the middle lane of traffic and hit a dump truck. The bus then hit a pillar at a railroad overpass.
The accident left the bus split in half.
The bus driver, who has not been publicly identified, was pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency crews. No other injuries were reported.
The bus driver has been a Metro employee since 2008.
Preliminary investigations have indicated that the driver may have suffered from a medical condition just before the wreck occurred.
A full investigation is underway.
