The northbound Caltrain struck the pedestrian, causing the man to suffer severe injuries, to which he succumbed at the scene of the train-related accident. There were 185 people, including train crewmembers and passengers, occupying the northbound locomotive when it struck the pedestrian. Armstrong was allegedly involved in a pending elder abuse case before his death, seemingly prompting investigators to question whether the train/pedestrian collision occurred by accident or if suicidal intentions could have been a possible factor in the incident. Transportation authorities and Caltrain officials were expected to conduct a full investigation into the fatal San Bruno train-pedestrian accident.
