A Davidson County school bus crashed head-on into a GMC Envoy, causing a Mazda to rear end the SUV.
Lexington, N.C.—A Davidson County school bus was involved in a crash with two other vehicles that sent 10 people to the hospital on Monday morning, March 15, 2010. The collision took place near the intersection of Cotton Grove Road and Oak Avenue, as reported by WGHP.
Davidson County Bus. 392 driven by Bobby Ray Jones was reportedly traveling southbound on Cotton Grove Road, when for unknown reasons it crossed over into oncoming traffic and slammed head-on into a GMC Envoy SUV, which then caused a Mazda Protégé to hit the back of the SUV. The collision left the driver of the SUV, Ulanda Johnson Matthews, trapped inside her vehicle. Once released from the wreckage, Aircare rushed Matthews to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital for treatment. The bus driver and seven students, whose ages ranged from 6 to 19-years-old, were taken to Lexington Memorial Hospital for treatment of “minor” injuries. Jeffery White, the driver of the Mazda, was also transported to Lexington Memorial for treatment. The school bus was reportedly on its way to Stoner Thomas School when the collision occurred. The students on the bus at the time were special needs students, who suffered injuries ranging from bruises to bloody noses. Police officials are currently investigating the three-vehicle wreck. The cause for the collision has yet to be released.
