Long Island, New York (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — A student of Kings Park College was driving under the influence of alcohol when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree and the guardrail in Smithtown, Suffolk, said the Suffolk police. Det. Lt. Gregory Byrne said that the 19-years\ old Scott Lamm, a sophomore at New York State University in Albany, had been riding in the car of his room-mate, Devin Cholodenko, at about 12:30 am.
Cholodenko was heading south-bound on St. Johnland Road in a white Toyota Avalon when he lost control and entered into the woods. The speed at which the boy had been driving is not yet known but he has already been given a ticket for driving under the influence of alcohol. The charges are likely to be upgraded while the district attorney’s office of the Suffolk County are saying that the investigations are still going on. Cholodenko, who had not been wearing a seat belt, was thrown out of the car while Lamm remained inside held back by the seat belt.
The car struck a tree and a guardrail on the passenger’s side and a 100 foot debris swatch from the trees and car were left behind, said Jeff Bressler, a spokesman from the Fire Department of Smithtown.
The police said that they took Lamm to St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown where doctors pronounced him dead after a short while. Cholodenko was taken to the Stop and Shop parking lot by an ambulance to the Jericho Turnpike where a helicopter from the Suffolk County Police lifted him to Stony Brook University Medical Center. Investigations are going on and where the two boys were going to and from where they were coming from is still not known.
