Trenton, New Jersey (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — According to a released report on Sunday according to the investigations made by the Nassau County Commissioner, Bonnie Garone accused Child Protective Service caseworkers of negligence while investigating a complaint against a New Cassel based mother a few days after her children drowned.
According to the report, the Child Protective Caseworkers did not investigate the case according to a February 22nd complaint where Leatrice Brewer was accused for threatening her three kids. On February 24th, the three children of Brewer Michael Demesyeux, 5, Jewell Ward, 6 and eighteen month old Innocent Demesyeux died by drowning. Brewer has been charged for murder.
Due to the negligence, a part time caseworker has been fired. Along with him, a night supervisor is going to be demoted and another caseworker will be both retained and demoted. According to Bonnie Garone, she would be referring some findings to Kathleen Rice, a Nassau District Attorney.
However, according to the findings made by the report, a caseworker visited Brewer’s house but did not follow the requisite steps while determining the fact whether the family was present at home. While the caseworker could have asked the women living in the building and could have taken the permission to visit the home, yet she left with a callback.After that, the caseworker received a ninety second call from Brewer, did not take notes and did not inform the supervisor. While replying to the investigators about the phone call, the caseworker said that she does not recall the conversation made by Brewer.
When another caseworker did not find anyone in the home on Friday evening, a part time caretaker was assigned the task of visiting the residence on Sunday rather than Saturday. Saturday should have been assigned to the caseworker instead of Sunday as the only purpose of providing Sunday to the caseworker was to provide additional day to the caseworker when the work could have been done on Saturday itself.
