Firefighter injured battling Jersey blaze

Legal news for New Jersey Work-related firefighter death attorneys—A firefighter was injured battling flames in a New Jersey condo.

Montclair, NJ (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A Montclair firefighter was injured when he fell down the stairs battling a blaze in a seven story condo, Wednesday, December 9, 2009, announced the New Jersey local news services.

Firefighters from Orange, West Orange, Verona, Cedar Grove, Bloomfield and Clifton responded to the three-alarm blaze. Montclair Fire Chief Kevin Allen reported that the firefighter who sustained injuries had fallen down the stairs when he was battling the flames on the fourth floor of the condominium.

The firefighters kept the flames contained to the condo located at 5 Roosevelt Place, off South Fullerton Avenue. The blaze began before 9:30 a.m. and Essex County arson investigators continue to probe the scene to determine what caused the blaze.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control in 20 minutes. Emergency medical services (EMS) transported the injured Montclair firefighter to Mountainside Hospital. Doctors and nurses treated him, and he was released.

The condo sustained smoke damage in the fourth-floor hallway along with several apartments that were damaged by the water used to extinguish the flames. Several residents were evacuated while others stayed inside their condos, which was safe due to the buildings fire-resistant construction.
