Houston, TX—A south Houston three-car crash left and mother and child dead. The fatal crash happened after a minivan ran a red light on Sunday afternoon, September 20, 2009, in the 6200 block of Sam Houston Parkway, as reported by the Houston Chronicle.
According to police officials, a minivan was traveling west on Sam Houston Parkway and ran a light at Fuqua. The minivan then slammed into a Ford Sport Trac, which then hit a Chevrolet SUV. The impact of the crash caused the Ford and Chevy to hit a light pole and burst into flames. The unidentified driver of the Ford and her 4-year-old child were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by responding emergency medical services (EMS) crews. Police officials are withholding the identities of the occupants of the Ford until an autopsy by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office is completed. Charges are currently pending against the driver of the minivan who ran the red light and caused the fatal crash. It is unknown if anyone inside the Chevy and minivan were injured as a result of the crash. Police officials are reportedly conducting a full investigation into the fatal multiple vehicle crash.
