According to a British writer Stephen Fry, a successful author is a person who knows well that how complicated a task is to write a book. Can you believe that according to a survey held by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), around 2.2 million books are being published every year? Keeping in mind that because of the technological revolution and the introduction of social media platforms, most people prefer to spend time on such platforms instead of reading or writing, the figure is 2.2 million every year, including fictional and non-fictional titles.
Why not merge technology and writing in such a way that technology itself would promote writing and reading?. We can’t ignore the fact that technology is already making the life of an author relatively easy. When Micheal Green was in the middle of writing his first book, the idea of simplifying and streamlining the writing process came to him. He was the US’s data scientist who shared his experience, saying that when at 500 pages of his complex story, the process of writing became difficult for him to manage. “While editing, I got to the point where I started feeling like I had a lot of plots and characters,” he says. “I had all these documents on the deeper aspects of the world I was creating. I was worried about being able to keep track of it all. That’s when I switched into my more data science-minded approach to solving a complex problem with a lot of different pieces.”
From brainstorming such experience, Mr. Green came up with a digital platform, ‘Lynit,’ that helps authors visualize and plot the characters and themes to form an excellent well-assembled story. This app has reached its beta stage, and many authors are testing it right now. For now, it is free to use where authors can use templates and other features of their interests. According to Mr. Green, the process of writing a novel has been simplified by the introduction of this application.
“As the author gets a new idea that they want to bring into the story, they can input it into a natural framework. They’re building a visualization.
“Piece by piece, they’re adding to the story. As new ideas come in, they change, maybe by creating new nodes [or interactions], new relationships,” he says.
As technology is making boost, once an author is done writing a book, it will help authors connect with readers. A writer can also simply use social media to connect with readers and provide answers to their questions.
Chicago-based Hiitide is a website that allows its writers to have live paid questions with its readers. A writer for self-development can also have learning sessions from this website. There is another tech firm named California-based Crazy Maple Studios that help writers bringing their stories to life.
All these applications indicate that now is the time when technology can now help authors write a book.
