Genie Garage Door Openers Recalled for Fire Hazards

New York, N.Y.—The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), along with Health Canada and Genie, garage door openers by Genie have been voluntarily recalled due to fire hazards they pose. The CPSC announced the nationwide product recall on February 25, 2014.

The garage door openers were recalled after it was discovered that the control board can overheat, which poses a fire hazard to consumers.

“This recall involves Genie, models PowerMax 1200 and 1500, and Genie Pro, models TriloG 1200 and 1500, screw drive garage door openers. The garage openers are gray and have a rating of ¾ HPc for the models ending in 1200 and 1 HPc for the models ending in 1500. “Genie” and the model name appear on both sides of the opener. The serial numbers are printed on a label located on the side opposite to the light,” the CPSC reports.

Consumers are advised to contact Genie for a free repair kit. In the meantime, consumers should unplug their garage door opener.
