London – Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson testified in the trial of two former assistants on Wednesday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Lawson accused her husband of trying to destroy her during testimony and denied the use of illegal drugs.

As noted by the AP, much attention surrounding the trial has been focused on the purported contentious relationship between Lawson and her former husband Charles Saatchi. A photo was released soon after their divorce that portrayed him gripping her throat outside of a restaurant.

Lawson is quoted by the AP as stating of Saatchi, “He said to me at the start that if I didn’t go back to him and clear his name he would destroy me… He started spreading false allegations of drug use.”

Elisabetta and Francesca Grillo, who were longtime employees of the couple have been accused of racking up 685,000 pounds (over $1 million) in unauthorized charges on credit cards loaned to them for household expenses by Lawson and Saatchi.

Lawson is quoted as stating of the sisters, “It’s very difficult when you find out that someone you have loved and trusted could behave in that way… In my heart of hearts I do not believe Lisa to be a bad person. But I believe her to have not a very strong moral compass.”
