California – A California man says Google Maps displays an aerial image of his deceased son and is seeking to have it taken down. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Jose Barrera says the image shows his deceased 14-year-old son’s body after he was shot and killed in 2009.

Barrera is quoted by the AP as stating to KTVU-TV of the issue, “When I see this image, that’s still like that happened yesterday…And that brings me back to a lot of memories.”

Google Maps Vice President Brian McClendon is further quoted as releasing the statement regarding Barrera’s request, “Since the media first contacted us about the image, we’ve been looking at different technical solutions…Google has never accelerated the replacement of updated satellite imagery from our maps before, but given the circumstances we wanted to make an exception in this case. We believe we can update this in eight days, and we’ve spoken to the family to let them know we’re working hard on the update.”

The slaying case of Barrera’s son has not been solved.
