Washington – The Supreme Court has formally dismissed a housing case that was settled prior to the court being due to hear oral arguments. As reported by Reuters, the dismissal was expected following a settlement agreed upon by the township council in Mount Holly, New Jersey and the citizen group that brought forth the case.

The closely watched lawsuit involved allegations that Mount Holly’s plan to replace lower-income housing with new units was in violation of the 1968 Fair Housing Act.

The court was reportedly asked by the Obama administration not to take the case as it had done with another case involving housing discrimination allegations concerning the city of St. Paul, Minnesota. The case was also settled prior to a ruling being administered from the high court.
