China – China is reportedly set to make changes to its long-held “one-child” policy. As reported by CBS News, the country recently announced that it will ease it decades-old policy and allow couples to have two children provided one of the parents is an only child.

The official news agency Xinhua released on Friday a document outlining the ruling Communist Party’s “decision on major issues concerning comprehensively deepening reforms.”

Under the current policy, families are limited to having only one child unless they fall under special circumstances such as both parents having been an only child themselves and having a first child being born a girl or with disabilities.

As noted in the report, the policy was implemented approximately four decades ago for the purported purposes of managing a population boom of the times.
