Obama honors 107-year-old World War II veteran during ceremony

Washington – President Barack Obama honored 107-year-old World War II veteran Richard Overton during a ceremony on Monday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Obama paid tribute to Overton and other veterans during the outdoor ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery at which hundreds were in attendance.

Obama is quoted by the AP as stating during the event of Overton, “This is the life of one American veteran, living proud and strong in the land he helped keep free.”

The president also stated of the war in Afghanistan, which is expected to come to a formal end by the latter part of next year, “the longest war in America’s history will end” soon. Thousands of military members remain at war, Obama noted.

Overton had earlier in the day attended a breakfast at the White House along with other veterans.
