Texas – A federal appeals court did not make an immediate decision on a motion pertaining to new abortion restrictions on Tuesday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the emergency motion would have allowed some of the new restrictions to take effect.

State officials called for a quick hearing on their appeal of the decision of a judge that struck down a requirement for doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at a hospital located no further than 30 miles away from their clinic.

Janet Crepps, an attorney for the Center for Reproductive Rights representing the abortion clinics, is quoted by the AP as stating of the issue, “If the injunction is lifted, literally thousands of women in Texas will no longer be able to access abortions…That’s a huge harm, and there is no interest on behalf of the state that justifies denying the constitutional rights of all of those women.”
