New York – Rapper Jay-Z recently made his first statement regarding the controversy surrounding luxury store chain Barneys amid racial profiling claims. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the hip-hop mogul came under fire for not speaking on the matter after two people claimed they had been profiled by Barneys following a visit to their Manhattan store.

Fans took to social media sites to request that the star back out of an upcoming deal with Barneys for the holiday season.

Jay-Z is quoted by the AP as saying of the matter in a statement, “I move and speak based on facts and not emotion… I haven’t made any comments because I am waiting on facts and the outcome of a meeting between community leaders and Barneys. Why am I being demonized, denounced and thrown on the cover of a newspaper for not speaking immediately?”

The star further asserted, “The negligent, erroneous reports and attacks on my character, intentions and the spirit of this collaboration have forced me into a statement I didn’t want to make without the full facts.”
