A second worker has died in an accident at the construction site of the new $1.2 billion San Francisco 49ers stadium in Santa Clara, California. As noted in a report by the Associated Press (AP), the truck driver involved was crushed by a bundle of rebar as it was being unloaded from his truck. The driver was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

An elevator mechanic was killed in the earlier stages of the construction of the project after being hit by a counterweight while working. Both accidents are reportedly under investigation to determine what possible safety measures could have been taken to prevent the fatal accidents.

The New York construction accident lawyers of The Law Firm of Jonathan C. Reiter note that the recent workplace accidents in California illustrate the same types of dangers construction workers in New York and areas throughout the nation face daily when working on major projects such as the construction of a new stadium. Safety hazards may be posed by falling objects, faulty equipment, a failure to use safety devices, and other issues. It is important that contractors and project site supervisors all do their part to ensure the safety of everyone involved so that fatal accidents such as these two recent tragedies do not occur.

Those who are injured in a construction accident may be able to seek legal compensation from employers, equipment providers or others who may be liable for their claim. Survivors of New York construction workers who have been fatally injured on a project site may also be eligible to pursue legal compensation for damages depending on the circumstances of one’s accident, and whether negligence on the part of a site owner, operator, or supervisor may have played a role. The Manhattan Injury firm of Jonathan C. Reiter can provide individuals who need legal representation in these matters with a free case review to assess the merits of their claim.
