San Francisco – Bay Area commuters expressed frustration with the lack of available rail service on Friday amid the BART strike. As reported by the Los Angeles Times, an Oakland man was arrested after tossing a traffic cone at individuals who were picketing BART’s Lake Merritt Station.

The strike is the result of a dispute between transit workers and Bay Area Rapid Transit management. On Friday, thousands of commuters were forced to find alternative means of transportation after labor negotiations between Bay Area Rapid Transit management and the leaders of Service Employees International Union Local 1021 and Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1555 fell through the previous day.

Lee Smith, a commuter, is quoted as stating to KTVU, “Traffic is absolutely horrible, horrible…It took me an hour and 15 minutes to get here.”
