Young boy drowns in Carnival Cruise midship pool

Miami –A six-year-old boy reportedly drowned in a pool while aboard a Carnival Cruise ship. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the cruise line released a statement to the news source on Monday regarding the incident, which occurred on the last leg of the Carnival Victory’s 4-day Caribbean cruise on Sunday.

Carnival spokeswoman Joyce Oliva is quoted as stating in an email to The Associated Press, “To the best of our knowledge it is the first time a child has drowned aboard one of our ships… Carnival extends its heartfelt sympathy to the family during this very difficult time. The company’s CareTeam is providing assistance and support.”

The drowning is being investigated by the Miami-Dade Police Department. The boy was reportedly with his brother at the pool during the incident. Police say it appeared to be accidental.
