Las Vegas – A nine-year-old boy boarded a flight to Las Vegas on Thursday alone and without a boarding pass. As reported by ABC News, the child was screened by TSA officials after arriving at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport in the morning. He boarded an 11:15 a.m. Delta flight.

The flight crew called the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police after becoming suspicious of the traveling circumstances of the child, who was touted as being street smart. He was subsequently placed under the care of child protective services as authorities investigated the matter.

Airport spokesman Patrick Hogan is quoted by ABC News as stating of the incident, “The fact that the child’s actions weren’t detected until he was in flight is concerning… More than 33 million people travel through Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport every year, and I don’t know of another instance in my 13 years at the airport in which anything similar has happened.”

Hogan further stated, “Fortunately, the flight crew took appropriate actions to ensure the child’s safety, so the story does have a good ending.”
