Philadelphia – A rally to be held by white supremacist group the Ku Klux Klan at the Gettysburg National Military Park is being cancelled due to the recent government shutdown. As reported by Reuters, park officials told the group that their demonstration, which was set for Saturday, would not be permitted to take place at the planned location because all National Parks are now closed. The KKK had previously obtained a permit to hold what it said would be a First Amendment demonstration at the park.

The park is quoted as saying in a statement, “Because of the federal government shutdown, Gettysburg National Military Park has rescinded all permits for special events, including the October 5 First Amendment demonstration.”

Hundreds of thousands of federal workers have been furloughed and numerous federal facilities across the country have been closed as a result of the shutdown on Tuesday.
