United Airlines pilot has heart attack during flight

Seattle – A United Airlines pilot suffered a fatal heart attack during a flight from Houston to Seattle. As reported by ABC News, Flight 1603 was diverted to the Boise Airport in Idaho, making a landing there at 8 p.m. on Thursday.

According to a report by Seattle ABC affiliate KOMO, a crew member made an in flight announcement asking whether a physician was on board. A United crew member is quoted as stating in a recorded conversation with air traffic control, “We got a man down, chest compressions going on right now. I’m not sure too much right now the status… Can an ambulance and maybe some air stairs meet us on the runway?”

A reported 161 passengers and six crew members were on board the flight.

United Airlines is quoted as releasing the statement, “The Boeing 737 landed safely, and paramedics met the plane upon arrival and transported the crew member to the hospital.”

A Saint Alphonsus hospital spokesperson reportedly confirmed the death of the pilot to ABC News. His name was not disclosed.
