Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg P.A. (ST&R), a leading international trade law firm, is pleased to announce the addition of Arnold (Arnie) Friede. Mr. Friede joins the firm as Of Counsel and Senior Food and Drug Law Attorney, bringing his distinguished career of more than 35 years of practice to ST&R. As a widely respected food and drug law counselor and advocate, Friede substantially enhances the firm’s capabilities to represent clients who market FDA-regulated products, such as food and dietary supplements, prescription and over-the-counter drugs, biologicals, medical devices, and cosmetics.

“We welcome Arnie to Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg,” says Tom Travis, ST&R Managing Partner. “His impressive ability and experience adds yet another dimension to the firm’s food and drug law practice and deepens our capacity to serve clients in the increasingly complex and regulation-heavy FDA arena.”

Mr. Friede has held diverse and complex positions across an array of substantive legal areas and business operations that cover the gamut of FDA-regulated industries. Additionally, he has significant advertising law, health care law, First Amendment, environmental, and commercial and transactional experience.

Prior to joining ST&R, Mr. Friede ran his own law firm specializing in FDA-related legal and regulatory matters. He has served as associate chief counsel in the FDA’s Chief Counsel’s Office, representing the agency in significant judicial and administrative proceedings while also serving as counsel to the then-Bureau of Radiological Health, now part of FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health. He has held a number of senior in-house legal positions with major corporations in FDA-regulated industries, including Senior Corporate Counsel of Pfizer and General Counsel of multi-national Unilever’s U.S. food business. He has served as adjunct professor of food and drug law at the University of Miami School of Law.

Mr. Friede is admitted to practice in California, Connecticut, the District of Columbia and Maryland. He received his B.S. degree in mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh and his J.D. from the George Washington University School of Law. His professional affiliations have included serving as chairman of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Law Section of the New York State Bar Association, a member of the board of trustees of the Food and Drug Law Institute, and chairman of the Government Relations Committee of what is now the Personal Care Products Council. In the course of his career, Mr. Friede has been an active participant in the legal and regulatory committees of major trade associations such as the Pharmaceutical Industry Manufacturers Association, the Consumer Healthcare Products Association, the Grocery Manufacturers of America, the National Food Processors Association, and medical-device technology association AdvaMed. He has served as an expert witness on FDA legal and regulatory issues and is a frequent speaker and author on a wide range of topics of interest to the pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device and life science industries.

Mr. Friede may be reached in ST&R’s Miami office. Contact him at afriede@strtrade.com or 305-894-1033.
