New Jersey – A New Jersey teen was sentenced to 17 years in prison for killing a young girl. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Justin Robinson, now 16, entered a guilty plea last month for aggravated manslaughter as part of a plea deal made with prosecutors.

Robinson was accused of fatally strangling 12-year-old Autumn Pasquale in October of last year after luring her to his home with the claim that they would be trading bicycle parts. Her body was found in a recycling bin near Robinson’s home. There was reportedly a lack of physical evidence to determine whether Robinson or his brother killed the young girl, which was one of the challenges faced by prosecutors in the case.

Robinson is quoted as stating to Judge Walter Marshall during sentencing, “I’m sorry. I never meant for this to happen… This was all a big mistake.”

The girl’s maternal grandmother, Mary Pasquale, who had been a teacher of Justin Robinson’s in school, is quoted by the AP as stating of her death, “When I see the blue recycling bins out, I cry to think Autumn’s innocent life was so easily discarded like a piece of trash.”
