Switzerland – The British stuntman who jumped from a helicopter dressed as James Bond during the opening ceremonies of the 2012 Olympics died in a wingsuit accident this week in the Swiss Alps. As reported by ABC News, Mark Sutton’s death was confirmed by Swiss police after he fell to his death following a 10,800 feet jump from a helicopter.

As noted in the report, many regarded the stunt performed by Sutton during the Olympics as an event highlight. The sequence in which James Bond actor Daniel Craig was shown escorting Queen Elizabeth II onto a helicopter from Buckingham Palace, concluded with Sutton in the role of Agent 007 making a jump over London’s Olympic Stadium along with another stuntman who was dressed as the Queen.

Gary Connery, who performed the stunt with Sutton dressed as the Queen, “In any sport where you share a common bond, you can make friends in a heartbeat that last a lifetime…My relationship with Mark was like that.”
