Sydney – A nurse in Australia has been sentenced to life in prison for setting a deadly fire at a nursing home. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Roger Dean, 37, was given the maximum sentence Thursday for setting two fires to a nursing home in 2011, which killed 11 residents and wounded others.

Dean is quoted by the AP as stating of his actions in a videotaped interview with police, “You won’t believe it, but it was like Satan saying to me that it’s the right thing to do… I love the residents very much and I have a really good rapport with them. So I feel extremely bad and I just feel evil — that I’m just corrupted with evil thoughts that had made me do that.”

New South Wales Supreme Court Justice Megan Latham called Dean’s actions “greatly reprehensible” during sentencing. Dean entered a guilty plea in May to multiple counts of murder and grievous bodily harm.
