Ohio – An Ohio gun group has raised over $12,000 for former neighborhood watch volunteer, George Zimmerman, who was acquitted in the killing of an unarmed teenager. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the firearms group wrote a check to Zimmerman for $12,150.37 after launching a fundraising effort over his gun rights after the U.S. Department of Justice took his gun along with other trial evidence as part of a civil rights investigation.

Ken Hanson, legal chairman of the Buckeye Firearms Foundation, says the money is meant for use on guns, ammunition, protective gear or a security system for Zimmerman.

Hanson is quoted by the AP as stating, “The Department of Justice refused to return him his gun, and he’s in need of protection… The money is intended to be used for anything he needs to defend himself or his family. He has complete discretion on how to use the money.”
