Shootout in Killeen leaves officer, gunman dead

Killeen, TX – A gunman and police officer were left dead following a shootout in Killeen over the weekend. As reported by The Christian Post, the gunman opened fire with an AK47 at the Grandon Manor Apartments.

Police were dispatched to the scene after a call was placed to 911 reporting that an armed man had been threatening people at the apartments. Police reportedly attempted to negotiate with the gunman prior to things escalating. The suspect opened fire on officers, leaving one dead and another seriously wounded. The gunman was killed after officers returned fire.

Killeen police spokeswoman Carroll Smith is quoted in the report as stating of the officer’s death, “It’s awful. This officer was a great officer. He was a friend, he was a good son, a good husband and a good father, a good brother, a great guy and he’s going to be missed deeply.”
