Moscow – Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that accused NSA surveillance leaker Edward Snowden could remain in the country under the condition that he ceases harm of American interests. As reported by ABC News, Snowden has been stuck in an airport in Moscow for several days after his passport was canceled by the State Department.

Putin is quoted in the report as stating to reporters, “If he wants to stay here, there is one condition: he has to stop his work aimed at damaging our U.S. partners, no matter how strange this sounds coming from me.” Putin followed up his statements saying the NSA leaker would likely have to go elsewhere due to the likelihood that he would not stop his efforts.

Snowden has been charged by US federal prosecutors with theft of government property, unauthorized communication of national defense information, and willful communication of classified intelligence to an unauthorized person. He has reportedly applied in several countries for political asylum.
