Massachusetts – New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has been charged with murder. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Hernandez, 23, was charged last week in the execution style shooting of Odin Lloyd whose body was found by a jogger not far from the NFL player’s home.

The Patriots cut Hernandez shortly after his arrest. Last summer he signed a $40 million five-year contract with the team. A statement released by the Patriots following the player’s arrest is quoted by the AP as stating, “Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation.”

Hernandez was sued by a Florida man last week, who alleged he shot him in the face following an argument at a strip club in February.

If convicted on the murder charge, Hernandez could face life in prison.
