Kansas – Planned Parenthood has filed a lawsuit over a new abortion law in Kansas. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), a Kansas City clinic and its director, Dr. Orrin Moore, assert in the suit that requiring doctors to tell female patients seeking abortions that they would be ending the life of a “whole, separate, unique, living human being” is in violation of their free speech rights.

Mary Kay Culp, executive director of Kansans for Life, is quoted by the AP as stating of the laws, “These laws are just so that there’s an opportunity for women to know the facts outside the confines of these businesses. … It’s nothing more than the state protecting its citizens.”

Peter Brownlie, the Kansas based Planned Parenthood chapter’s president and chief executive officer, is further quoted as stating in opposition of the new requirements, “A physician has the right to determine what information is relevant” in the treatment of patients, and the law “undermines a woman’s ability to trust her doctor.”

The new requirements are set to take effect in July.
