Chicago – A federal judge ordered Michael Jordan to make an appearance in court this week over a lawsuit he filed against a grocer in 2010. As reported by the Chicago Tribune, Jordan made an appearance Wednesday, after being allowed to secretly enter the Dirksen U.S. Courthouse through an underground parking garage and private elevator to avoid attention.

Jordan filed the lawsuit against Dominick’s Finer Foods LLC for purportedly using his name without permission in an advertisement congratulating the former basketball star.

U.S. District Judge Milton Shadur ruled that Dominick’s is liable; however, wanted Jordan to appear in court to discuss reasonable damages in the case in which Jordan is suing for $5 million.

Shadur is quoted as stating, “I thought the demand was greedy.” Lawyers for Jordan maintain the amount requested is fair-market value for use of his image.
