Newburgh, NY — A second work-related accident has suspended work on a state-operated bridge that is being repainted. The workplace accident occurred on the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge Thursday morning, June 6, 2013, the Associated Press reported.

According to officials from the New York State Bridge Authority, 46-year-old Renalto Amaral of Newark, N.J., sustained injuries while working in a containment area underneath the bridge deck.

The containment system is a plastic-enclosed device that helps keep paint chips from falling into the river below.

The nature of the accident and Amaral’s injuries were not released. This is the second accident to occur at the bride in less than a month.

On May 21st two workers almost plummeted into the river, but were saved by safety harnesses.

Work on the bridge is expected to resume in a few days.

Investigations are underway.
