Woodhull, NY — A Osceola, Pa. man was electrocuted Thursday, May 23, 2013 in a field being planted by local farmer. The fatal work-related accident occurred on property at the intersection of Wells Road and county Route 99 in Woodhull around 3 p.m., the eveningtribune.com reported.

According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit, Dean Farnsworth, 75, of Briar Hill in Osceola, was electrocuted while working in a field.

An off-duty deputy sheriff and local residents performed CPR on Farnsworth before a Woodhull ambulance arrived at the scene. The responding emergency medical crews rushed Farnsworth to Corning Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to a report from the sheriff’s office, Farnsworth was “working in an open field with another area farmer when he raised the box on his 10-wheel dump truck to connect an auger system to a tractor. The top of the truck box then “came into contact with an overhead high tension line,” which charged the truck with 4800 volts of electricity.

Farnsworth was reportedly working with a “PTO system” at the time, which caused electricity to enter his body.

Investigations into the electrocution are underway.
