New York – A merchant was held for a $3 million ransom and tortured for a month after being taken from a NYC street in broad daylight. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Pedro Portugal, 52, was found this week and three men have been arrested and charged with his kidnapping.

As noted in the report, detectives zeroed in on the location of where he was being held after tracking phone calls and noticing pizza deliveries to an area in Queens that was deserted.

Three additional men purportedly linked to the crimes have fled the US and one other is thought to still be at large.

Portugal owned a small accounting and tax firm. He had been burned with acid by his captors and was still hospitalized for his injuries at the time of the report.

Authorities are still investigating why the captors thought they might have been able to get a $3 million ransom in the kidnapping.
