Man Airlifted After NJ Workplace Accident at Leem Filtration

Ramsey, N.J. — An industrial accident at an Arrow Road business severely injured a man after he was pulled through a machine he was working on. The workplace accident occurred Friday afternoon, April 26, 2013, around 12:45 p.m. at Leem Filtration, the Patch.com reported.

According to officials, the 43-year-old man was working on a lathe a when a piece of his clothing became caught in the machine and dragged him inside it.

Responding emergency medical crews from Ramsey Ambulance and Valley Hospital paramedics took him to the Mac Farran Field parking lot, where a medevac helicopter transported him to Hackensack University Medical Center.

The man, who remains unidentified, suffered a compound fracture to one of his arms, as well as a “severe” back injury and a head injury.

Investigations are underway. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is expected to investigate.
