McKinney – Six children were left with injuries following a gas explosion in Texas. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the children were taken to the hospital for treatment, four of them airlifted to a hospital in Dallas after sustaining critical burns.

At least one of the injured children, whose ages ranged from 4 to 11, reportedly sprinkled gasoline in an open fire pit and left the can nearby. The explosion occurred after fumes from the can ignited.

Deb Martin, a neighbor, is quoted by the AP as stating of the incident, “It was a whoosh…I don’t know how else to describe it, and the kids were screaming. I thought maybe it was a firecracker, but they kept screaming. Some of the kids were running from the backyard.”

Adults were reportedly inside the home when the explosion occurred.
