Orlando, Florida – A Florida detective is seeking permission to exhume the bodies of two deceased convicted murderers to solve a decades old murder case. As reported by Reuters, Sarasota County Sheriff Detective Kim McGath will make the request of a Kansas judge to extract DNA from Richard Hickok and Perry Smith, who were executed in 1965 for the murders of a Holcomb, Kansas family in 1959.

McGath, who reportedly believes the convicted killers may have also been linked to the deaths of a Florida family in 1959, is quoted in the report as stating of the possible connection, “Certain things kind of kept jumping out to me that got my attention. Certain clues that came to the forefront.”

DNA testing was not available at the time of the murders, and evidence preserved from the Florida case is reportedly now being examined and tested.
