Teen receives school suspension after growing hair for charity

Ohio – An Ohio teen has received a school suspension after growing out his hair to donate it to a charitable organization. As reported by ABC News, 17-year-old high school junior, Zachary Aufderheide, was given an ultimatum by Canton South High School to cut off his hair or accept a 2-day in-school suspension, due to being in violation of the school’s dress code.

Aufderheide has reportedly been growing out his hair to meet the Locks of Love 10-inch donation requirement, for which he is approximately an inch short. He is quoted by ABC News as stating of his desire to donate to the organization for the benefit of children who have experienced the loss of their hair due to a medical condition, “I was picked on so I know where they’re coming from, I know how they feel so I sort of sympathize with them because I’ve been there.”

The student, who made of request of the school board to allow him to continue growing his hair to meet the requirement, indicates that after his donation, he would maintain his hair according to the dress code.
