Elk Grove, CA – An 11-year-old California boy was arrested last week in the beating of his 51-year-old disabled mother. As reported by The Sacramento Bee, the boy was charged with elder abuse and assault with a deadly weapon after the hospitalization of his mother who had been beaten with an extension cord.

The boy, whose name was not released in the report, was a caregiver to his mother with whom he lived with alone. Suspected abuse was reported by a third party prior to the juvenile’s arrest.

Elk Grove police spokesman Christopher Trim is quoted in the report as stating of the unusual nature of the case, “I cannot recall a case in which a kid has been taken into custody on charges of abusing a parent who has fiduciary responsibility for the child… Typically the situation is reversed. A kid will go to school with marks or bruises, and someone calls police and the parent is arrested.”
