Construction Worker Airlifted After Falling from Roof in Herkimer

Herkimer, NY — A construction worker in Herkimer was hospitalized Monday morning, July 30, 2012 following a workplace accident that occurred at a construction project site at Street Ponte Chevrolet on Route 28 around 10 a.m., reported WKTV.com.

According to reports, nearby residents spotted a contractor falling from a roof while working on the construction project.

Emergency crews were notified of the injury, who then called in a helicopter to transport him to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

A landing zone for the helicopter was cleared at the old P&C site in the Village of Herkimer.

Details surrounding the construction accident have not been released at this time. The identity of the victim and the extent of his injuries are also being withheld.

Investigations into the construction accident are underway. It is unknown if the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be investigating.
